The air sets our daydreams in motion. Our gaze is lifted because something is in the air—a call to search for our own thoughts, to follow our intuitions and premonitions.

As a counterpoint to these visionary moments, Mr. Misfortune appears. He is doubt transformed into a puppet, observing the world cynically and grumblingly, feeding on the fragility of our ideas and their chances of succeeding.

​

In the air, there is movement. Air, breath, pneuma, breathes life into matter. The puppet itself does not breathe; yet it moves as if it did. The breathing bodies of the dancers stand in contrast to the puppet. Things grasped from the air find expression in a sylph-like space between bodies and puppets.

​

When The Air Breaks, what has been hidden comes to the surface. Premonitions, visions, and ideas reveal themselves beneath the brittle layers as new possibilities.
